What is Glucose Support for horses?
Glucose Support is a powder mix of purely natural ingredients and can be used in horses or ponies to support healthy sugar metabolism. The mix includes artichoke, nettle, curcuma, monk’s pepper, brewer’s yeast and more. It supports your horse’s glucose absorption, has a positive effect on the immune system and supports proper pancreatic and intestinal function. It helps to keep glucose levels balanced and is therefore very suitable during the grazing season when the fructan (sugar) content in the grass is high.
Problems caused by spring grass
During the winter months, your horse’s gastrointestinal system is completely set up for dry roughage. Therefore, when grass becomes part of the daily ration again in spring, it affects your horse’s digestion and sugar levels. But why is that?
Grass constantly produces fructan (a type of sugar). This fructan is used for growth but gets only processed when the temperature is high enough. As a result, sugar levels are highest as soon as the temperature outside starts to rise after a period when grass growth was stagnant. Therefore, in spring, the fructan content in grass is highest. If a horse ingests too much of this sugar-rich grass, there is a risk of various health issues. To minimise the risk of spring grass, it is important to take time transitioning your horse to pasture and slowly increase the grazing periods by an additional 15-30 minutes per day. You may moisten it slightly so that the powder is not blown out of the container. – Horse or pony up to 350kg: 10 grams – 1/2 scoop per day. – Horse over 350kg: 20 grams – 1 scoop per day. When your horse or pony has to get used to the product, you can also slowly build up the dosage or divide it over 2 moments per day. This product can be given permanently. However, it is advisable to insert a stop week after every 6 to 8 weeks, so that the stimulus is offered again after the stop week.
Storage Make sure the product is kept tightly closed and dry. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label.
